Key takeaways
- Pricier phones (22% of 2025 shipments were ₹30,000+) and a booming refurbished market mean more, higher-value repairs.
- Phone repair is about speed: tickets in seconds, IMEI and accessories captured, status visible to the counter.
- Record IMEI, condition and whether a password was shared on every job, to protect you and the customer.
- Keep repairs and accessory sales in the same inventory and day-end report.
Why phone repair keeps growing in India
IDC counted 152 million smartphones shipped in India in 2025. Volumes were flat but value rose 8%, according to Counterpoint, because buyers moved upmarket. Premium phones above ₹30,000 made up 22% of shipments, and Apple shipped a record 14 million iPhones. A ₹15,000 screen replacement on a premium phone is a far more likely repair than a replacement handset.
Second-hand phones add to the repair queue. Counterpoint says India’s refurbished smartphone volumes grew 13% in the first half of 2025 while new-phone volumes fell, and it expects refurbished sales to grow 16% in 2026. Quality is still a gap: Counterpoint’s 2025 survey found 4 in 10 Indian smartphone users needed repeat visits for a repair. A well-run shop that fixes it right the first time stands out.
What a phone repair counter needs
Phone repair is high-volume and fast. Software has to keep up with the counter:
- Tickets in seconds: search the customer by phone, pick brand and model, choose the issue from a preset list.
- Status at a glance: what’s waiting for a screen, what’s ready, what’s overdue.
- WhatsApp updates: a ‘received’ message with the job number, then ‘ready for pickup’.
- One bill: repair plus a new cover or tempered glass, paid part UPI, part cash.
- Works on the phone in your pocket: owners check the day from anywhere.
IMEI, passwords and condition: getting intake right
| Field | Why |
|---|---|
| IMEI (and second IMEI on dual-SIM) | Proves which handset you received; guards against swaps and stolen devices |
| Brand and model | Determines which parts and prices apply |
| Accessories received | SIM tray, SIM card, memory card, cover, charger |
| Condition | Cracks, dents, bent frame, water indicators; take photos |
| Reported issue | Display broken, battery draining, not charging, speaker or mic, network |
| Lock / password shared? | Record only whether it was shared; restrict who sees it |
| Estimate and advance | Avoids pickup-time disputes |
Parts, accessories and warranty
Screens, batteries, charging ports, back glass and speakers make up most phone repairs. Track them properly:
- Stock by model: know at a glance whether you have the display for a specific model before promising a delivery time.
- Price per part on the job so nothing fitted goes unbilled.
- Original vs compatible: keep separate items so pricing and warranty are clear to the customer.
- Warranty on repairs: record the period (often 30–90 days on parts) on the invoice and job card.
- Accessory sales from the same inventory, with GST sales invoices.
If you buy, refurbish and resell phones, remember that the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 require refurbishers to register on the CPCB portal. Serial and IMEI records of what came in and went out make compliance much simpler.

How Rasko does it
Rasko’s job card records IMEI and serials, accessories, reported issues and photos. You set up preset lists of issues and accessories per product, so a ticket is a few taps. Parts come from inventory with a price per part, and accessories are sold from the same stock.
The customer automatically gets a ‘device received’ WhatsApp message. You send the ‘completed’ and ‘delivered’ messages from the job when you choose. Board-level repairs can go to an outside service partner who never sees your customer’s details.
How to choose mobile repair software
- Time a ticket at your real counter: customer search, IMEI, issue, save. Aim for under a minute.
- Fit a screen from stock and check the price lands on the bill.
- Bill a repair plus an accessory on one invoice with a split UPI and cash payment.
- Send the ‘ready’ WhatsApp to your own phone.
- Check the day-end report covers both repairs and sales.
- Confirm the price in rupees, including GST and any messaging charges.
