Key takeaways
- Appliance ownership in India is still rising: about half of households own a refrigerator and under a quarter a washing machine.
- Most appliance service happens at home, so bookings, technician assignment and a mobile app are central.
- Set up each product type with its own common issues and accessories so job cards are fast and consistent.
- Separate warranty from paid work and track AMCs for recurring revenue.
The appliance service opportunity
Industry estimates put India at roughly 300 million households in 2025, with about 52% owning a refrigerator, 23% a washing machine and around 10% a room AC. That leaves a lot of room to grow, and every new appliance becomes a future service job. GST 2.0 cut the rate on ACs, large TVs and dishwashers from 28% to 18% from 22 September 2025, making them cheaper to buy.
A home-visit workflow
- Request: a call, WhatsApp message or online booking with appliance, issue and preferred time.
- Booking: confirmed with the customer and scheduled.
- Assignment: technician chosen by area, skill and availability.
- Visit: diagnosis, estimate, approval, repair, with parts and photos recorded on the phone.
- Part needed? The job moves to ‘part required’ and a second visit is planned.
- Billing: GST invoice, payment by UPI or cash, warranty noted.
- Follow-up: offer an AMC and send a ‘job completed’ message.
